Chevy introduced the new ZR2 Bison Edition as an off-road/overlanding-focused trim featuring a wider track, 10.7 inches of ground clearance and 33-inch tires. With the discontinuation of the midrange engine option, the 2024 Colorado comes with two engine output levels rather than three. Overall, the 2024 trims have minor feature changes.

In terms of preference, we recommend buying the Trail Boss. This trim has all the features of the lower budget trims and most of the features of the more expensive trims, including 32-inch all-terrain tires and fender flares. Compared to lower trims, it also has an extra 15 inches of front suspension travel and an additional inch of travel in the rear.

Engine, Transmission and Performance

Every 2024 Colorado runs on Chevy's turbocharged 2.7-liter inline four-cylinder engine. However, the trim level determines the output. All trims also have eight-speed automatic transmissions and a standard 237 horsepower for the WT and LT trims. Z71, ZR2 and Trail Boss use the 310 horsepower. The WT and LT also have open rear differentials, a limited-slip unit on the Trail Boss and Z71, and a power-locking front and rear differential on the ZR2 off-road trim.

The WT and LT trims have a combined fuel economy of 21 miles per gallon, 19 mpg on city roads and 23 mpg on highways. The Z71 and Trail Boss trims' fuel efficiency is 19 mpg combined, 17 mpg on city roads and 21 mpg on highways.
